Louise (gravitypope owner) and I have worked together to design gravitypope stores for many years. The Toronto store was the flagship store combining both shoes and clothing and needed to be extra special. The space was open and raw. I designed and project-managed the entire space. It is located on Queen Street at Ossington, the most up-and-coming area I hear in North America. The store needed a mezzanine and a basement storage + gallery space. All-in-all about 4500 sq ft.
This job became an adventure. I spontaneously decided to head down to Buenos Aires, Argentina in search of antique French furniture and fixtures. Low and behold, the angels fell upon me and I discovered a beautiful salvaged brass and glass Art Deco stair bannister from the Parmount Theatre which would anchor the entire store. After an exciting week we filled a container with trés belle antique fixtures. Features include all LED lighting, polished concrete floor, true wood change rooms in the fashion of Louis XIV France brasserie.
The store became a hit and has been written up in many publications.
