Our objective with this space was to create a simple luxurious environment with a lot of shoes and the requirement for open floor space customer traffic (lots of baby strollers in this area).
As we consider every project to be an art form, it is always great when we find something that inspires the design of the space. In this case we found a group of Sputnik chandeliers that were used in a car dealership somewhere in western USA. These fixtures were all we needed to spur on the project. Long Carrera marble platforms form a central runway for multitudes of shoes and boots. Half-moon shaped try-on stations allow customers privacy in a busy space to share the excitement when picking new kicks. Robin’s-egg blue paint combined with brown was used to break the space up into different categories. Custom block tile create a texture on the back wall and the cash counter (made in Canada). Wooden flooring is the only way to go in a shoe store for comfort and pleasant sound created when walking. In this case we chose to paint oak hardwood white and wait for it to wear and reveal the natural wood below.
As for art, vintage shoe-related photos were purchased and enlarged creating a slight twist into the past.
