In the summer of 1981, Peter Turner met Wendy Lahti at her small picture-framing shop. They fell in love, got married and The Artworks was born a year later. The Artworks started as a humble poster shop in the historic Weinlos Building in downtown Edmonton. With the addition of unique gift items, cards and fresh-cut flowers the business moved to a larger space next to the old Rialto Theatre on 101 Street. In 1987, they expanded north to the corner of Edmonton City Centre. Thirty-five years later, The Artworks is reincarnated in its current location on Rice Howard Way.
Today, the store’s distinctive storefront and forward window displays hint at the wonders inside. Enter and be transported into a magical world. You will find an artfully showcased collection of modern and classic design pieces, one-of-a kind found objects, fine jewelry and flowers. Peter and Wendy’s uncompromising focus on craft, quality and love of artisan traditions has made The Artworks the destination for Edmonton’s design-conscious shoppers and in-the-know visitors.
